MY PUBLIC HOLIDAY
I expected to get up a little later today but found my eyes wide open around the same time I wake up for work. My body must be so accustomed to waking up at 7.30am by now that it would feel weird if I were to catch a few more hours of sleep. I tossed and turned, tried closing my eyes, lazed around but nothing worked. I just couldn't go back to sleep. So I got up in the end.
After having my quiet time and chatting a bit with Meiling online, I went downstairs to the kopitiam with my parents for brunch. After our meal, we went to the provision shop to get some groceries. My mum bought Wang Wang crackers and Campbell Corn soup for me.
It was raining again today and I didn't feel like doing anything in the afternoon. Stayed at home the whole day and the main thing I did in the later part of the day was to sleep. Napped till it was time for me to catch the 7pm serial, which was also dinner time as well.
My dad fried black pomfret tonight, prepared sliced pork with button mushrooms, and also fishball & veg soup. I always look forward to times when there is fried black pomfret, because it is my favourite fish. I'm not a 'fish' person, so given a choice between poultry and fish, I will always go for poultry such as chicken, my favourite. Between fried fish and steamed fish, I prefer fried ones, cos they are crispy and don't really have that strong a 'fishy' smell after being cooked. According to my dad, it is tedious to fry fish. Frying 2 pomfrets can take up an hour's time. The person frying the fish is also subject to risks/dangers of having the oil spilled onto the skin by accident. My dad got burnt in this manner on a few occasions, but fortunately they were slight ones. Wonder if I will ever get down to learning how to fry fish??
Hmmm... anyway, after dinner I went to prepare some things for work. So that sums up what I did for Hari Raya Haji today.
