BUSY DAY
Today was a busy day. From the time I stepped into office to the time I went off, it seemed as if I never stopped working. I did go for a 40-minute lunch with my colleagues and we again had an ice-cream break at 5.45pm, but the rest of the time was utilised for processing financial assistance application forms (the tedious part), calling up clients, fixing appointments with them, responding to emails and preparing for a session. By late afternoon, I was almost stoning. What's more, it rained! How nice if I could just hide inside one of the counselling rooms, settle down comfortably in one of those chairs with the cushion and fall asleep there hee... of course that didn't come to my mind then, I just thought about that now only lah...
Anyway, as it has happened on a number of occasions, my client today stood me up... so... I used that time to do some reading on my own. Was looking through the resource library in the Centre and selected 2 books from the shelves. One was on techniques and guidelines for social work practice, another one was on integrating family therapy across models. I had already read some of the contents in these books previously, but have to refresh my memory again. This time round, though, I browsed through on the roles and functions of social workers, and also guidelines for social work professionals. Ran through structural family therapy and started a bit on strategic family therapy... Okay, know these terms may sound unfamiliar to some of you, but basically just upgrading my knowledge base, something that social workers are expected to do in order to keep themselves competent and accountable to their clients, to the agency, to the profession and to themselves.
After work, I met up with an old secondary school friend, Xiaowei, at Thomson Plaza! Her pic appeared before some months ago when I had a gathering with my ex-classmates from sec sch so I won't post it here again... We had dinner at Four Leaves Cafe, which is the Four Leaves bakery/pastry shop we commonly know of. I didn't know they serve food and drinks there, and the place wasn't that big, but we opted to have our meals there after deciding between it and Hans. Quality of the food is not bad, portions are generous too. Ordered a grilled chicken chop set dinner which comes with soup of the day, 2 slices of toasted bread with butter, and a Ribena drink! (So now you all know why I chose Four Leaves hee...) And all these for $6.90... :)
Had a very good time catching up with Xiaowei and I really love her bubbly personality. She's one of the most caring people I know and always makes time and effort to encourage the people around her. She's a sec school teacher but is considering making a career switch to social work. Social work was one of her majors in NUS last time but she went into teaching right after her graduation. Her bond ends on 1st June this year but she's most probably staying on still because she's going to take the Sec 4 and 5 students in her classes through the year.
Am starting to yawn now... time to go offline.
