THE PAST 6 DAYS
I’m back! Finally! Can’t wait to get my hands on the office comp to blog haha… but I’m doing it now after office hours, stayed back to clear a bit of work too.
Hmmm… where shall I start? (pondering… thinking… recalling… organising my thoughts)
** Okie, basically I had fallen ill over the entire duration of my 3-day training course. But I still went for it because the company paid for it, and also because this was one workshop that I had always wanted to attend on casework, assessment and case management. I only took MC once since I started working coming to 9 months, so that’s quite a record I think, hee hee… thank God for good health and strength
Last Wednesday itself, my nose was still quite stuffy, I was coughing quite a bit and my face was feeling slightly hot towards the end of the day. Both my ears hurt a bit on and off too. I wasn’t sure if I was running a fever but decided to attend the earlier 6pm BS instead before rushing back to see a doctor at the clinic near my house. Thank God there was no fever and no ear infection. Doctor said it’s probably due to the body being heaty which could then result in ear-ache. Also, nose and ear systems are connected, that’s my guess lah. I was given antibiotics for throat infection, the usual black cough syrup, tablets for runny nose and painkillers for the ear-ache. So for the remaining 2 days of the course, I was just very sedated, drifting in and out of drowsiness, falling asleep in class in front of the trainer that I felt so embarrassed. And what’s more, 2 other group discussion members in the same group were also sick! 1 of them was coughing, sneezing, blowing her nose… and my dad just recently recovered from flu.
But I want to thank God that the recovery process this time round was pretty fast. During the first 2 days, the irritating cough which I used to have (the cough that people term as the “100-day cough") came on, and I had to suck on Wood’s extra strong peppermint lozenges to suppress it. I prayed to God for healing and a fast recovery, and then all of a sudden, on Saturday, a whole lot of the coughing just disappeared! It didn’t affect me much at all that day except for 5 minutes during cell group when Bro Victor was preaching. The irritation feeling comes on without warning and it makes the throat so itchy that one will need to cough for some time before it would stop and go away. Right now, I am feeling a lot better, but still have phlegm, coughing a wee bit and my voice hasn’t yet returned to normal, sounds a bit low. Will have to refrain from heaty and spicy food for the time being, though I nibbled a bit on some curry chicken and fried fish yesterday, hee…
** Weekend was super busy for me too. Entire Saturday and Sunday was packed like anything. One of the highlights was that I had to emcee for StrengthTalks on Saturday morning and because I was still on the antibiotics then, I felt a bit drowsy while the talk was going on. But at the end of it, while wrapping up the talk and making announcements to the talk participants, I felt very awake, spoke all the way without coughing and didn’t feel nervous too. Thank God for that.
After the talk, rushed back home for cell and had a good cell group meeting. Daddy Mummy made pork porridge and century egg for refreshment! After cell, rushed by cab to Audrey’s house for her housewarming. A lot of my colleagues were already there but it was good that I still can make it and stay around for at least an hour before we went off. Audrey ordered pizza and KFC whereas Li Ching bought curry puffs, tuna puffs, Swiss roll and sausage rolls from Polar Puffs. Laura brought along snacks but our stomachs just didn’t have room for that after all the feasting. There was also chocolate éclair and apple tartlet. And Kumar brought a round water-melon! He says it’s a tradition started by Miss Toh (Hazel), that when we visit someone’s home we must bring a water-melon. And the next time we visit another person’s house, we are supposed to carry on this tradition and present a water-melon to the owner of the house. Of course that’s a joke lah, knowing Kumar… he said that on purpose to ‘suan’ Hazel cos she brought a water-melon to his house during our last gathering and the poor water-melon remained in its original state, uneaten and untouched.
** So much for now… have to get home for dinner before it’s too late. Will continue again.
