God Satisfies Our Desires With Good Things
Psalm 103:2-5
Praise the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all His benefits-
who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases,
who redeems your life from the pit and crowns you with love and compassion,
who satisfies your desires with good things so that your youth is renewed like the eagle's.
This was the passage that I turned to in my Bible today when I was spending time with God. Out of these verses, verse 5 was the one that struck a chord in my heart -- "who satisfies your desires with good things..."
As I read this portion over and over again, it just dawned upon me that only God is the One who can satisfy our desires, not us. Not by our own might. Not by our own efforts. Not by our own understanding. Nor by any acquired power or social influence we possess. But God is the One who does that. And the Bible clearly tells us that God satisfies our desires with good things. Not with bad things. Not with average things. Not with things that are second-best. But with good things.
We all have desires... deep longing in our hearts to achieve certain things in life that we want. As long as our desires are in line with the will and purpose of God, I believe that God will supernaturally fulfill those desires on our behalf and bring satisfaction to our lives. And God will do it His way, in His timing, for our good.
It is easy for us to lose heart and stop running the race when nothing seems to be happening. It is easy for us to believe in a lie and think that God is out to wear us down. It is easy for us to want to 'help' God and have things done our own way. But God is a good God. Every good and perfect gift comes from Him. God knows the plans He has for us. He only has plans to prosper us, not to harm us. Satisfying our desires with good things is one of the benefits that God provides to His children. And if God has said that He will do that for us, He will surely do as He has promised. Let's take God at His Word and stop doubting His Word. If we don't even believe the things God has promised to us, are we saying that we know it all, even better than God? If we insist on having things done our own way, we can never experience God's best for our lives. Let us all have a trusting heart, a believing heart that does not turn away from the living God. For it is He who satisfies the thirsty and fills the hungry with good things (Psalm 107:9).

After my quiet time, I went to meet Nan Yen. We had lunch at Hans in Novena Square. Both of us ordered the set lunch, hers being Grilled Fish Fillet and mine Sirloin Steak. We had a good talk with each other and had lots of fun taking pictures of ourselves too :) Shortly after lunch, I heard my handphone ring. It was an unfamiliar number and I wondered who it could be. To my pleasant surprise, it was the HR executive from MCYS! He and the other interviewers had taken note that I had applied for the position of 'Probation Officer' as well, and so he asked me to go down to MCYS again tomorrow at 9am to meet the chief probation officer, so that I could have a better understanding of what a probation officer actually does. And thereafter, probably I would then have a feel of whether I'm more interested in rehab or probation work. I was totally amazed... I didn't expect to get a call from them since I had just met them this morning, neither did I expect them to ask me to go down a 2nd time. Thank God for His goodness and favour. I'll have to try my best to turn in early again tonight :)
