FINAL THEORY TRIAL TEST

This is an account of the trial test I took for my final theory yesterday.

Initially, I had made bookings for the 6.55pm and 7.45pm slots to start on my final theory practice. Halfway through the morning, however, I decided to take 5 and a half hours time-off that I was entitled to because it is due to expire next week. With the huge amount of free time that I have on hand, I thought, why not just go to the driving centre earlier and make bookings for other timeslots so that I can start practising?

I was actually hoping that I could have started studying over the weekend so that I could take the trial test yesterday and pass it. Just like basic theory, the system would only allow me to register for the actual test after passing a trial with no more than 5 mistakes. But I had been heavily occupied by other stuff the last few days so I had no chance to even study for it. What's more, the final theory handbook was twice as thick as the one for basic theory. Hence, I didn't harbour too much hopes of doing the trial yesterday.

Anyway, I went to the centre's self-automated kiosk and made bookings for 2.40pm, 3.30pm and 5.30pm theory practice sessions. I was prepared to sit through every one of them and try my very best to learn. After all the bookings were done, I sat on one of the chairs outside the practice venue and started reading up.

For the first 2 sessions, it was very tough. Many different things were tested on and I couldn't understand why certain answers were the way they were even though there were explanations! Like, why is it engine brake becomes ineffective when we depress the clutch pedal? Why is the engine brake better than the footbrake in going down a steep slope? What to do when there is aquaplanning? And also, a lot of memory work... like, having to remember that lower gear means more power but less speed and vice-versa. That we should keep a distance of 1.5m from pedestrians whose backs are facing traffic and a distance of 1m from those who face traffic directly... and etc etc etc...

By the end of the second session, I decided that I needed additional practice. So I quickly went to book for the 4.40pm session. Good thing about practice sessions is that vacancies will always be available and the system allows bookings to be made so long as the sessions have not commenced. So into my 3rd session I went, and more different questions surfaced. Some of them had been tested on before in basic theory, so not so bad. Then, by the time I came to the 4th session, seems like I've gone one full cycle through when the same questions I attempted earlier began repeating themselves again. The more I attempted, the faster I became in responding and of course, the number of times I answered correctly also began to increase. And my understanding of the various terms and concepts subsequently became clearer as well.

Thus, at the end of the 5.30pm session, I felt I was ready to do the trial test during the 6.55pm slot, which is my final timeslot for the day because I had already cancelled off the 7.45pm one. I prayed before I began doing and could really sense God tangibly being there with me as I did the test. 50 questions were given and I completed them and checked through the answers in 15 minutes. God is so good. I passed the trial test with full marks! 50/50! This is so unexpected, within a day! Praise the Lord! :) Went immediately to book for actual final theory test right after, which is on 19 October.

Besides, I've also applied for and obtained my provisional driving licence to start driving on the circuit. First practical lesson is on 5 Oct.

God is great! :) Thank You Jesus.
