IT'S A SUNDAY!
I've just come home from church. And it's a miracle that I've been rather wide awake for the past 14 hours in spite having slept only 3 hours or so the night before!
I needed to get up by 5am this morning so I was all ready to go to bed latest by 12midnight. Lying on my bed, however, I just couldn't get to sleep straightaway. My eyes were shut but my mind was active. I was hoping that I would fall asleep gradually as the minutes ticked by but that didn't happen. I wasn't thinking about anything in particular but it's just that my body and mind didn't feel tired at all even though I yawned a few times. Must be the 3-hour nap I had taken in the evening earlier causing me to lose sleep. After what seemed like hours, I decided to go downstairs to the kitchen to drink some water to quench my thirst. But a baby lizard on the kitchen floor prevented me from accomplishing this task. So I went back up to my room and lay down again. In the midst of it, I even thought of coming online to blog about my sleepless night but decided against it as I thought it'd be a waste of energy.
Then I prayed. I prayed that God help me to sleep quickly and asked Him to strengthen me supernaturally as I usher today cos today is a long day for everyone, with service in the morning and 'Going On To Perfection' BS in the afternoon.
After I prayed, I didn't sleep right away. Instead, an idea popped into my mind: listen to music. So that was what I did. I chose to listen to the various Korean drama serial theme songs (from Winter Sonata and Loving You) and then Leslie Cheung's cantonese songs. They were soothing to an extent but I had to get up every now and then to change CDs or replay certain tracks which I liked. Finally, after all that listening, I switched off my mini hi-fi and lay down again. Can't remember when and how, but managed to sleep at last. Answered prayer :)
This morning I was even more amazed. I was totally wide awake from the time I got up till the end of BS! I've experienced on a number of occasions when God just provided me His supernatural strength for the day when I thought I would be very tired. And God has done it again today! Thank You, Jesus :) Wouldn't have been able to endure through the day without You.
I did External Traffic today and was stationed at the foyer before and after service with other traffic ushers to direct people who were coming in and going out. Facing an oncoming perpetual flow of people and being positioned at a certain place to welcome them and greet them isn't something that I'm actually comfortable with. In fact, it can be quite intimidating because responses from the people vary. Some will reciprocate, smile and say 'Good Morning' back to you but there will be some who simply treat you as transparent. And there will be some people who give you weird stares or just zero in their attention on your name tag and give a nod. But one of the Traffic Usher i/cs just put me there for both before and after service. So I just did the best I know how and had to consciously remind myself to smile. After a while, it didn't feel that scary but I think I'll still need to build up confidence in doing that.
At the end of it all, I remember what one of the i/cs shared with the Traffic Ushers this morning... and that is, this is the day that the Lord has made; we will rejoice and be glad in it. When we usher, we don't just treat it as another duty, but as another opportunity to serve the Lord. And when we serve, we choose to serve with joy, knowing that when we make a decision to do that, we ourselves and the people we serve are blessed.
6.43am... just arrived at Singapore Expo. The sky is still pretty dark

My lunch today! Chicken rice with a fried egg! One of the ushers helped to take orders for us... Ate it during the transition between end of svc and start of BS

Fanning dry the recyclable plastic communion trays after BS... was quite amusing looking at the way we did it

Received an early Chinese New Year greeting card by post from Alicia! So sweet of her :)

Enclosed too was a very nice bookmark with my name and its meaning on it! Oooh... I'm really touched.
