DURIAN DAY
My parents bought durians home today! Upon stepping into the front balcony, I was delighted to see plastic bags on the floor full of the green, spiky durian husks. I had been walking past the durian stall vendors just outside the Cheers outlet of my neighbourhood for the past 2 weeks, wondering to myself each time as to when I would get to taste the thick and delicious custard-looking flesh of the fruit. Just now, I walked past the stall again and contemplated buying. But I carried on walking without turning back because my mother had just recovered from a full-blown flu and sore throat so I thought we might as well let this durian season pass us by. Little did I know that durians would be right at home waiting for me! God really knows the desires of our hearts...
Some of the durian husks in the plastic bags were empty as my parents had already opened them up and stored the flesh and seed in tupperwares. I ate 2 very sweet ones almost immediately. Then after dinner, I ate another 6-7. My brother dropped by tonight too to tuck into the durians even though he was supposed to be at his mother-in-law's place this weekend. But of course he went there for dinner first before popping over here for his durian dessert.
Durians are nice but heaty. I need to remember to increase my water intake these days cos I won't want to end up with a sore throat during my mission trip.
Tomorrow my mother is going to help me change S$ for NT currency, which is inclusive of my accommodation, transport and miscellaneous expenditure. Am taking time off from work too on Tuesday so that it gives me time to go through whatever items I need to bring with me. 3 more days to Taiwan!
