EVE OF NATIONAL DAY

8 Aug was Laura’s birthday. We were planning to go Buddy Hoagies for lunch that day to celebrate for her but unfortunately, she had already made arrangements to go on time-off at 12noon for family lunch. However, Li Ching had bought Laura a stalk of red rose and put it at her workstation that morning while Laura was in a session. She also attached a little accompanying note that says “From Your Secret Admirer”! Well, hope that was still a sweet surprise for her :)

In the afternoon, Choi Foong, Li Ching, Regina, Jane (our new perm admin assistant) and I went to MacDonald’s for lunch as we were getting a bit sick of kopitiam food. All of us ordered EVMs (Extra Value Meals) and I ordered a corn cup as well whereas a few others requested for salad.

In the midst of lunch, we touched on a very interesting topic – LOVE. Didn’t know how it started, but Regina and Choi Foong were talking about their family and how they met their husbands. Then suddenly, everybody’s attention centred on me. Questions started popping up, such as “Your church got so many people, got anyone potential not?”, “Your cell group got not?”, and blah blah blah… I don’t mind them asking of course, just found it very amusing that they would actually ask. Choi Foong even added that when I have one in future, she can help me see whether the person is ok for me or not, haha… And Regina sent me a one-liner email after lunch saying that “My uncle tells me to treat every comment and advice as different options for you to consider”… such motherly advice coming from them, worth pondering over hee…

Anyway, 8 Aug was also Isabel’s birthday! Nan Yen and I met her at J8 in the evening for a short while as Nan Yen had a gift for her while Isabel needed to go and exchange the Christian tee I gave her for another one.

After Isabel went off to meet her mum and Ivan for her birthday celebration at Taka’s Crystal Jade, Nan Yen and I went to Ajisen Ramen for dinner. She tried the Spicy Miso Ramen while I had the Volcano Ramen. Each came with a side dish and a drink, so we chose soft shell crab and fried prawn balls. The service there was also prompt and efficient; one waiter kept on coming to fill up our empty glasses with plain water even though we had long finished our meal and were just sitting around chatting… Talked about our personal life, our work, ministry, cell group… I really enjoyed that, has been a long time too since I last met up with Nan Yen. As the next day was National Day, we had no need to rush home too. Hope to have more of such heart-to-heart talks :)
