THE COCKROACH CRISIS

This morning there was a crisis in office! A big cockcroach appeared out of nowhere from a plastic bag of files that Choi Foong was carrying and caused a big hoo-ha among all the gals! Oh, my workplace has no men/guys yet so got only all the ku-niangs (as Kumar used to describe us).

That cockroach swiftly found its way to Lucy’s workstation and hid itself among her files and belongings below! And we all went “Aaaahhh!! Eeee!!” while Auntie Grace our super woman came with her bottle of Shieldtox to check out and spray on that brown-looking creature that was causing us so much unrest. It disappeared for a while however, and Fiona, Lucy and Auntie Grace were looking high and low trying to spot it. Li Ching and I were more afraid and kept a distance. Eventually, the cockroach crawled to where Hazel used to sit (which is just opposite my workstation). We all didn’t know it, until I spotted something brown that seemed to be moving along the shady, grey area of Hazel’s former workstation. I took the torch that Auntie Grace was holding and shone around just to take a look. And my gosh, it was really there! I didn’t see wrongly, it was that cockcroach! Knowing me, I started screaming loudly and called for the rest to come and get rid of it. I think I frightened or rather amused the rest with my screams because they told me I was just like a little girl squirming and screaming like nobody’s business even though I was furthest away from that brown insect.

Sigh… what to do? Auntie Grace says in all her years at Daybreak, I’m a “rare species”, hahahaha… oh well, she meant it jokingly in a good-natured way… now everyone has seen the other side of me, hee…

Anyway, Fiona came with a broom to sweep it away and discard it into the trash can. Phew! Thank God crisis is over. All of us just returned to their respective places but not before laughing and teasing me over the brief moments of my hysterical screams.
