WOW! DRESS-UP PARTY
This morning was the 2nd session of WOW! for the kids’ holiday programme. We did not go outdoors but had a dress-up party in the centre next door. 2 of the volunteers Kavitha and Wei Lin couldn’t be here today, so only Adeline and Huihui were around to help me and Lucy.
Had the kids gel together through ice-breakers first before getting them to choose a representative from their group as a model for dress-up! And wow, many of them were super creative! They used the materials that we provided them with, comprising of trash bags, newspapers, raffia string, sponge, cotton wool, coloured paper, glue, double-sided tape. With these, they were able to create “costumes” for characters like Superboy, Witch, Princess, Robot and Cowgirl. Am really impressed by them :)
Was telling Mei over MSN earlier that I was very tired by the end of the programme, partly because some of the children were really challenging to handle. Some just couldn’t sit still and were constantly running around, playing catching and playing with water. Others on the other hand were a bit quiet and had to be coaxed into participating with the rest. Some did open up gradually and enjoyed receiving prizes for their dress-up competition and goodie bags. Lucy and I packed the goodie bags and prepared the prizes yesterday and only managed to get them all done by 7pm.
Towards the end of the programme, getting the kids to play just 2 rounds of Poison Ball was enough to zap the remaining energy out of me. I had to be very directive and literally shout out the rules of the game to make sure everything was clear and understood. Hope they are more manageable next week when we bring them out to Sungei Buloh... will upload the pics of today another time as today really got no time to upload...
